Traffic Engineer to the Technical Department in Järfälla Municipality

Today, approximately 320 people work at the Department of Urban Development, acting on behalf of the Technical Committee, the Environmental and Building Permit Committee, and the Municipal Executive Office. The Technical Department's important mission includes both administration and technical support in an expanding municipality. Together, we are creating the future Järfälla – a place for everyone.

The Traffic and Street Unit is part of the Technical Department and works to ensure that Järfälla is a well-functioning, beautiful, clean, and safe municipality to live and visit. We manage and develop the traffic and street environment with long-term goals to create good safety and accessibility. We work with the design, planning, and construction of streets, bridges, and squares, and participate in early stages as a review authority for detailed development plans and building permits in public spaces. The unit's tasks also include the allocation of public spaces and permits to use municipal land for various events and temporary purposes. Contact with citizens and businesses is an important part of the work, and we aim to provide excellent service to entrepreneurs and the public.

Järfälla Municipality is an expanding municipality where more people need to share existing infrastructure while new infrastructure is being built. Järfälla is a dynamic municipality northwest of Stockholm that combines proximity to nature, city, and water. In Barkarbystaden, a completely new, modern district is emerging with housing, retail, workplaces, and new subway stations that strengthen Järfälla's already good communications. Järfälla is a multifaceted municipality with a rich mix of cultures, residential areas, and leisure opportunities.

We are now seeking a Traffic Engineer who, together with other traffic engineers, will be responsible for ensuring that the daily traffic environment in the municipality is safe and has good accessibility. The unit also consists of street engineers, traffic planners, and handlers for, among other things, land allocations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Your tasks are varied, ranging from administrative duties to on-site inspections and surveys in the traffic environment. Your main tasks are to review, approve, and follow up on traffic regulation plans (TA-plans) based on Järfälla Municipality's technical manual and the Traffic Ordinance. You will also investigate, compile documentation, and decide on local traffic regulations (LTF). You review documents such as detailed development plans and development documents, and respond to correspondence from the public, other departments, and companies. Other tasks that traffic engineers are responsible for include parking issues, road signs, road maintenance, as well as investigations and decisions regarding vehicle relocation and exemptions for heavy traffic.

To handle these tasks, you need a good understanding of urban and traffic planning, as well as solid knowledge of pedestrian, bicycle, public transport, and car traffic.

You will act as an expert in meetings and discussions. The work is often done in consultation with colleagues at the Technical Department, other departments, authorities, and consultants, which means you need to be communicative and have a high ability to collaborate with other employees within the department, both within the same geography and within the same operational area, in order to achieve the best possible operation. You enjoy contributing to continuous development through experience exchange with competent colleagues.

You will have contact with the public regarding questions and comments about the traffic environment in Järfälla Municipality. Therefore, it is important that you have an engagement with citizens and their needs, and that you enjoy working in a politically governed organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who has:

relevant higher education or vocational training, for example in urban development, traffic and urban planning, or similar, or alternatively work experience that compensates for the competence requirements
practical work experience in traffic planning, traffic engineering, road work, or similar tasks
Class B driver's license
good ability to read and understand, as well as express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing

It is an advantage if you have:

experience with the case management system IsyRoad or similar systems
experience working with LTF processes, TA-plans, parking supervision in public places, and/or traffic safety work
knowledge of and experience with exercising public authority based on relevant legislation, such as the Traffic Ordinance, the Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act, the Local Government Act, the Administrative Procedure Act, the Planning and Building Act (PBL), and the Public Procurement Act (LOU)
competence in safe school routes, traffic noise, vehicle relocation, and accessibility in the traffic environment for people with disabilities
